It is a village with scattered settlement 18 km west of Kyrenia. Until the beginning of the 2000s, the most important livelihood of the villagers was lemon orchards. The construction boom that started in the whole of Kyrenia district in 2003-2004 also took place in Karşıyaka village and many luxury villas, mass housing, hotels and holiday villages were built in the region. Today, some of people living in the village work as workers, civil servants or tradesmen in Kyrenia. The south of the village is covered with pine forests. The vacant lands on the coastal plain are used as agricultural land and vegetables are grown in irrigated areas. Olive and carob trees in areas that cannot be irrigated also provide a good income for the villagers. Small-scale animal husbandry is also among the important occupations of the villagers.
After the construction boom that started in 2004, there was a large increase in the population of Karşıyaka. Many foreigners bought houses and settled in the village. After the decision of the Council of Ministers regarding the connection of villages to municipalities, Karşıyaka was subordinated to Lapta Municipality.
